Volunteers’ Fair at Southwell Minster – Tuesday 18 July, from 10am till 2pm

Would you like to volunteer at one of the world’s most beautiful cathedrals and join the friendly family of volunteers and staff at Southwell Minster? You could turn your hand to teaching and volunteer in the Cathedral Education team or share the history of an architecturally unique building and house of God as a Tour Guide. How about helping us to maintain our wonderful gardens, or arrange beautiful flower displays in one of the county’s most prestigious buildings?

On Tuesday 18 July, from 10am till 2pm, the Minster will host a volunteer fair to encourage anyone with an interest in learning new skills to come and join in and become part of the Minster family. There will also be a chance to go on a tour of the Minster at regular intervals during the day.

This event is aimed at any age, from 16 upwards, to show you just some of the wonderful things that the team of amazing volunteers take on on behalf of the Minster. Anyone signing up to become a volunteer will learn ‘on the job’ as full training will be given. There will be representatives from the following areas, who will be available to answer any questions: The Palace Gardens, Education, Cathedral Shop, Flower arranging, Stewards, Tour Guides, Concert/Event Stewards and Hospitality.

“We aren’t asking for previous experience in any of these fields, just a keen enthusiasm and a genuine interest to learn and be part of our wonderful cathedral community. All our volunteers are essential to the upkeep and development of this unique building and the important work that the Minster does. In return for their time, we can offer full training and references where requested,” says Canon Nigel Spraggins, Chief Officer of Southwell Minster.

There will be complimentary tea and coffee available throughout the day. References will be available, when requested, following a minimum of ten hours volunteering. So why not come along and see if any of the volunteer groups take your fancy? All welcome.

About Southwell Minster

Built in the 12th Century, Southwell Minster has been the Cathedral church for Nottinghamshire since 1884. It is a prayerful place and a spiritual resource to the 307 parishes of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.  It was one of only a dozen cathedrals recently mentioned in the Lonely Planet’s Ultimate UK Travelist.
