Heritage Open Days
11/09/2020 - 20/09/2020
Welcome to England’s largest festival of history and culture!
Every September some 46,000 volunteers across England organise 5,500 events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore.
This year’s open day events have been adapted to meet the Coronavirus restrictions and here at Southwell Town Council we hope you are still able to explore and enjoy our events. We are pleased to be able to offer a self guided walking tour of the town of Southwell and a video tour of The Old Courthouse.
Self Guided Walking Tour of Southwell
This tour starts at Church St carpark in Southwell, parking is free for first 2 hours – please display a ticket. The tour lasts approx 45 mins (depending on your walking speed), along local pavements and footpaths with some slight inclines. At the end of your walk enjoy browsing our independent shops and take refreshments in one of our many cafes, restaurants and pubs.

Video Tour of The Old Courthouse
The Old Courthouse was built in 1884 and many minor local cases such as poaching, theft, drunkenness and non payment of debt were tried here. Take a look inside the building, see the old courtroom and the prison cells, plus an array of old photographs of Southwell.
