The Cross Keys is a 16^th century pub in the village of Upton, Nottinghamshire and the landlords are determined to build a ‘pub for all’ – where people can feel equally at home, whether they are just popping in for a drink and a chat or sitting down to enjoy the excellent home-cooked food now offered at the ‘Keys’.

Upton, located on the A612, just two miles east of Southwell and five miles from Newark, is a charming village, described in 1889 as ‘sitting on a bend in the main road on the summit of a hill which commands a fine view of the Trent Valley’.  Its principal landmarks are Upton Hall, now home to the British Horological Institute, and the 13^th Century Parish Church.

The Cross Keys (which is rumoured to be haunted) has been at the centre of village life for more than 300 years and its style reflects its heritage – beautiful open fires and several alcoves under a heavily-beamed ceiling.  But new landlords Steve and Alison have now lightened and brightened the interior to make it even more inviting.

“We aim to create a pub for all, where people can feel really at home, where community events can take place, and people can pop in for a quick drink and a chat, enjoy a good lunch, or spend an evening with us enjoying excellent food and fine ales and wines.”
