A friendly and forward-looking group, dedicated to the exploration, preservation and sharing of the archaeology and heritage of the ancient Minster town of Southwell and surrounding areas.
In liaison with professional archaeologists and local universities, the group is engaged in a number of interesting projects including: the HLF Funded Vicars Court and Orchard Land Project; the research into the Saracens Head Elizabethan Wall Paintings, supported by a Geoffrey Bond Thoroton Society Award; and a long-term field walking and landscape project. There are regular post excavation recording and analysis sessions throughout the year and the opportunity to engage in archival research and in expert led tutorials in artefact identification.
In addition, there is a series of talks for members on the archaeological heritage locally and further afield.
