Southwell City is now the third largest football club in Nottinghamshire, providing football to over 400 players in 35 teams aged under 6 to over 50 years of age. Most players are local children and people and the club’s philosophy is to offer football and football related activities to the Community of Southwell and the surrounding villages.
Southwell City Seniors
The senior branch has five teams: the flagship first team in the Central Midlands League, the reserves in the Notts Senior League and the U19s in the North Midlands Development League. There are also two veteran teams playing matches on Sundays. In 2018, the club welcomed its ladies Senior Team which plays in the Notts Ladies League.
The club was originally formed in 1893. They play their football on the picturesque Memorial Ground in the shadow of Southwell Minster. The club has its own clubhouse, with changing facilities, club lounge and bar, and several years ago installed floodlights, allowing them to play midweek games.
Southwell City Juniors
Southwell City offers 17 boys’ teams from U6 – U18 and six girls’ teams, ranging in age from U9 – U16. The teams play competitive and non-competitive football in local leagues based in Nottinghamshire. Younger teams play friendly football to encourage development of skills. Younger children play five or seven-a-side format at the Minster Field pitches. Older children play nine or eleven-a-side football, mostly at The Centenary Ground, Brinkley.
All teams are coached by volunteers who are DBS checked, with an FA qualification in coaching football, and first aid and safeguarding children training.
